Farmers RECC Donates $7,000 to Local Organizations Committing to End Hunger

Farmers RECC recently donated $7,000 to area organizations who are committed to ending hunger in our area.

The BackPack Program, organized by Feeding America, helps children get nutritious, easy-to-prepare food so they can get enough to eat on the weekends, when they are not in school. Bags of food are assembled at area food banks and then distributed to children through the school’s Youth Resource Office.

Farmers RECC donated $2,000 each to Barren, Hart and Metcalfe counties.

In addition, Farmers RECC donated $1,000 to the Community Relief Fund Food Pantry, which donates food to local residents struggling with food insecurity.

“We understand that hunger is a very real problem for some of our area students,” said Caralyne Pennington, Director of Member and Public Communications at Farmers RECC. “If we can help some of those students and the public with that problem, we feel it’s important to do what we can, especially during this uncertain year.”

Approximately $120 will feed a student on the weekends for the entire school year. The funds have been distributed to the schools Youth Resource offices so they can identify individuals with a need for the donations.

“Our employees live and work in the communities we serve,” said Pennington. “This is just another way for us to give back.”

L-R: Janey Cline, Hart County and Jennifer Bannister, Barren County, both BackPack Program Coodinators for their counties, were each presented a check for $2,000 by Caralyne Pennington (right), Director of Member and Public Communications for Farmers RECC.
