Glasgow High School Girls Win Touchstone Energy All "A" Classic Title
Farmers RECC and Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives are pleased to announce the winners of the boys’ and girls’ basketball tournaments for the 2014 Touchstone Energy All “A” Classic. Glasgow High School claimed the girls’ championship and Newport Central Catholic won the boys’ division during the finals Feb. 2 at the Frankfort Convention Center.
Glasgow's Lady Scotties beat Danville 53-43 and were led by tournament MVP Shalika Smith’s 22 points and 19 rebounds. Newport won against Cordia 72-61, marking the second consecutive boys’ All “A” championship and third overall for the school. Zach Pangallo of Newport was named the boys’ tournament MVP.
“Farmers RECC congratulates the Glasgow High School girls basketball team on their All “A” Classic win,” said Caralyne Wright, Director of Member and Public Communications at Farmers RECC. “We are committed to supporting youth and education, and we are proud of this year’s winners.”
The All “A” also awarded academic scholarships. In January, 70 students received $1,000 awards to attend Kentucky colleges. Approximately 30 additional students will receive in-kind scholarships from various colleges by the end of the summer.
Farmers RECC would also like to congratulate the All “A” scholarship winners from our service territory; Ms. Kassidy Edwards, Ms. Megan Edwards, and Ms. Hannah Thompson, all from Metcalfe County High School.
Throughout the remainder of 2014, additional All “A” tournaments will be held in baseball, softball, golf, volleyball and soccer.
Glasgow hoists the championship trophy after beating Danville 53-43, during the finals of the girls Touchstone Energy All-A Classic, in Frankfort, Sunday, February 2, 2014.
